Hon. Yolanda A. Tanner has been serving as an Associate Judge on the Baltimore City Circuit Court, 8th Judicial Circuit, since August 27, 2010. She has held various significant roles, including Presiding Judge of the Juvenile Drug Court since April 2014 and Member of the Juvenile Law Committee of the Judicial Council from 2021 to 2022. Before her judicial appointment, Judge Tanner was a Supervising Attorney in the Legal Services Division of the Department of Social Services in Baltimore City from 1996 to 2004 and a Master for Juvenile Causes in the Circuit Court of Baltimore City from 2004 to 2010. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Judge Tanner attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 1980 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1991. She has been admitted to the Maryland Bar since 1991 and has been a member of various bar associations, including the Maryland State Bar Association and the Baltimore City Bar Association.
Judge Tanner has also been actively involved in several legal and community organizations, including serving on the Board of Trustees of the National Lutheran Home from 1993 to 1995 and as Vice-President of the Delaware-Maryland Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America from 2007 to the present. Her extensive legal experience and dedication to public service make her a respected and influential figure in the Maryland judiciary. Judge Tanner’s commitment to justice and her diverse legal background highlight her as a distinguished member of the Baltimore City Circuit Court.
