Hon. Theresa M. Chernosky, Esq.

Hon. Theresa M. Chernosky, Esq. has been serving as an Associate Judge on the Montgomery County Circuit Court, 6th Judicial Circuit, since December 17, 2021. She was born in Concord, Massachusetts, in 1970. Judge Chernosky earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, Math, and French from Lake Forest College in 1992 and her Juris Doctor from Albany Law School in 1995. She was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1995, the Massachusetts Bar in 1995, and the Kentucky Bar in 1996. Before her judicial appointment, she served as a Deputy District Public Defender for Montgomery County from 2017 to 2021 (Assistant Public Defender from 2001 to 2017), and as an Assistant Public Defender in the Department of Public Advocacy, London, Kentucky, from 1996 to 2001.

Judge Chernosky has been actively involved in several legal and community organizations, including serving as a Member of the Montgomery County Bar Association since 2013 (bar leader from 2015 to 2019, executive committee from 2017 to 2019, nominations & elections committee from 2018 to 2019), and the Montgomery County Chapter, Women’s Bar Association of Maryland, since 2013 (executive committee from 2018 to 2019). She has also been a Fellow of the American College of Trial Attorneys since 2019. Her extensive legal experience and dedication to public service make her a respected and influential figure in the Maryland judiciary.
