My experience with Magistrate Ronika Sumlin was the lesser of evils from my previous 2 hearing. I went before her for a Child Support Modification hearing brought by the mother of my 17 yrd old out of spite. The child support order is about 15 or 16 years old and my son is about to turn 18, so that isn’t too hard to figure out the motive. Anyways during the hearing, Magistrate Sumlin was pleasant to both of us but still exhibited bias in favor of the mother. She basically took anything she said at face value with no documentation or evidence, but questioned me thoroughly and made me present evidence of everything I said to defend myself. She ruled to deny the increase request because my income was much lower than the mother’s and had been for the last 8 years or so and showed that an actual decrease was warranted. She wouldn’t put thru the decrease because in her eyes, I didn’t request one in my answer, which I actually did by stating to apply any necessary changes which should have happened whether an increase or decrease was warranted. She advised I would have to request a change myself thru the courts or Child Support agency and come back, unbelievable!
