Hon. Mark W. Crooks is an associate judge for the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Maryland. Appointed by Governor Larry Hogan in November 2016, Judge Crooks has a diverse legal background. He served as deputy legal counsel to Governor Hogan from 2015 to 2016, and prior to that, he was an Assistant United States Attorney with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland from 2009 to 2015. During his tenure, he worked in the White Collar and Corruption Section and the Major Crimes Section.
Before his federal service, Judge Crooks spent seven years as an assistant district attorney with the New York County District Attorney’s Office in Manhattan, where he served in the Special Narcotics Unit and the Official Corruption Unit. He also has military experience, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer USS Nicholson from 1995 to 1999. Judge Crooks holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a B.A. in history, political science, and Spanish from Duke University. He is actively involved in the legal community and has received several awards for his prosecutorial work.
