Hon. John M. Maloney, Esq. has been serving as an Associate Judge on the Montgomery County Circuit Court, 6th Judicial Circuit, since January 30, 2015. He was born in Washington, DC, in 1963. Judge Maloney earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Colgate University in 1985 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1988. He was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1988 and the U.S. Supreme Court in 2001. Before his judicial appointment, he served as the Deputy State’s Attorney for Montgomery County from 2007 to 2015. He also worked as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia from 2002 to 2003 and as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Prince George’s County from 1989 to 2007 (chief of the homicide unit from 2003 to 2007).
Judge Maloney has been actively involved in several legal and community organizations, including serving as a Member of the Peer Review Committee of the Attorney Grievance Commission since 2005 and as the Chair of the State Prosecutor Selection and Disabilities Commission from 2010 to 2015. He has also been a Member of the Maryland State Bar Association since 1988, serving in various roles such as the Criminal Law Section (2007-), the Criminal Pattern Jury Committee (2010-), and the Special Committee on Voir Dire (2011-). His extensive legal experience and dedication to public service make him a respected and influential figure in the Maryland judiciary.
