Hon. James A. Bonifant, Esq. has been serving as the Circuit Administrative Judge for the 6th Judicial Circuit (Frederick & Montgomery counties) and the County Administrative Judge for the Montgomery County Circuit Court since July 6, 2021. He previously served as an Associate Judge from July 6, 2017, to July 6, 2021. Judge Bonifant earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Virginia in 1978 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1982. He has held various roles in private practice, including serving as an attorney at Miller, Miller & Canby, Clarke, Crawford & Bonifant, and Debelius, Clifford, Debelius, Crawford & Bonifant.

Judge Bonifant has been actively involved in several legal and community organizations, including serving as the President of the Montgomery County Bar Association and as a Member of the Maryland State Bar Association. He has also been a Member of the Specialty Courts and Dockets Committee, the Education Committee, and the Court Operations Committee of the Judicial Council. His extensive legal experience and dedication to public service make him a respected and influential figure in the Maryland judiciary.
