Hon. J. Michael Wachs is an associate judge for the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Maryland. Appointed by former Governor Martin O’Malley on December 4, 2007, Judge Wachs has had a long and distinguished career1. He served as a Master in Chancery from 1998 to 2000, and as an associate judge for the District Court of Maryland from 2000 to 2007. Before his judicial appointments, he was an assistant public defender in Anne Arundel County from 1987 to 1991.

Judge Wachs has presided over many high-profile cases, including the tragic Capital Gazette shooting case in 2020. He has also been actively involved in the community, serving as the presiding judge of the Adult Drug Treatment Court since 2013 and participating in various legal and community organizations. Recently, Judge Wachs announced his retirement, effective before the 2024 general election.
