Hon. Herman C. Dawson, Esq. served as an Associate Judge on the Prince George’s County Circuit Court, 7th Judicial Circuit, from December 21, 1998, until his retirement in 2024. He was born in Selma, Alabama, in 1954. Judge Dawson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Alabama State University in 1977 and his Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law in 1980. He was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1984. Before his judicial appointment, he worked as an Associate County Attorney in Prince George’s County from 1984 to 1990. He also served as a law clerk for the Operating Rights Division of the U.S. Interstate Commerce Commission from 1980 to 1981 and as a law intern to Judge James H. Taylor, 7th Judicial Circuit, from 1983 to 1984.
Judge Dawson has been actively involved in several legal and community organizations, including serving as the Judge-in-Charge of the Juvenile Drug Court from 2010 to 2017. He has also held leadership roles in various committees, such as the Chair of the Child Support Enforcement Committee from 2000 to 2001 and the Chair of the Civil Law and Procedure Committee from 2001 to 2005. Additionally, he has been a Member of the Problem-Solving Courts Committee from 2010 to 2014 and the Court Access and Community Relations Committee since 2021. His extensive legal experience and dedication to public service have made him a respected and influential figure in the Maryland judiciary.
