Hon. Nicholas E. Rattal, Esq. has been serving as an Associate Judge on the Prince George’s County Circuit Court, 7th Judicial Circuit, since December 20, 2007. He also serves as the Presiding Judge of the Adult Drug Court since 2010. Judge Rattal earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland in 1983 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1986. Before his judicial appointment, he worked as an Attorney in the Office of Public Defender, District 5 (Prince George’s County) from 1987 to 2007, where he held various roles including law clerk, supervising attorney, and felony trial division attorney. He was born in Washington, DC, in 1961.
Judge Rattal has been actively involved in several legal and community organizations, including serving as the Chair of the Problem-Solving Courts Committee of the Maryland Judicial Conference from 2014 to present, and the Chair of the Specialty Courts and Dockets Committee of the Judicial Council from 2015 to present. He has also been a Member of the Council on Jury Use and Management from 1999 to 2000, and the Chair of the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Council in Prince George’s County since 2010. His extensive legal experience and dedication to public service make him a respected and influential figure in the Maryland judiciary.
