Hon. Dorothy M. Engel, Esq.

Hon. Dorothy M. Engel, Esq. has been serving as an Associate Judge on the Prince George’s County Circuit Court, 7th Judicial Circuit, since January 29, 2016. She was born in Washington, DC, on May 11, 1974. Judge Engel earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland College Park in 1997 and her Juris Doctor from the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America, in 2000. She was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 2000. Before her judicial appointment, she worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Prince George’s County from 2001 to 2016, serving as the Chief of the Strategic Investigation Unit. She also worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Baltimore City in 2001.

Judge Engel has been actively involved in several legal and community organizations, including serving as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Prince George’s County Bar Association since 2015 and as a Member of the Prince George’s County Chapter, Women’s Bar Association of Maryland, since 2013. She has also been an Associate Member of Lodge No. 89, Fraternal Order of Police, since 2008 and a Soccer Coach for the Riverdale Boys and Girls Club since 2002. Her extensive legal experience and dedication to public service make her a respected and influential figure in the Maryland judiciary.
