Hon. Sylvester B. Cox has been serving as an Associate Judge on the Baltimore City Circuit Court, 8th Judicial Circuit, since January 7, 2004. He has held various significant roles, including Judge-in-Charge of the Adult Drug Treatment Court and Presiding Judge of the Adult Drug Treatment Court Program from 2006 to 2007. Judge Cox has been actively involved in several legal committees and organizations, such as the Drug Treatment Court Commission and the Problem-Solving Courts Committee of the Maryland Judicial Conference. Prior to his judicial appointment, he served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Baltimore City, where he was the Chief of the Firearms Investigation Violence Enforcement Division from 1997 to 2003.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1958, Judge Cox earned his Bachelor’s degree in Government from Franklin and Marshall College in 1980 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1983. He has been admitted to the Maryland Bar since 1985 and has been a member of various bar associations, including the Baltimore City Bar Association and the Monumental City Bar Association. Judge Cox has received commendations from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Baltimore City Police Department for his outstanding service. His dedication to the legal profession and his extensive experience have made him a respected and influential figure in the Maryland judiciary.
