Hon. John S. Nugent

Hon. John S. Nugent has been serving as an Associate Judge on the Baltimore City Circuit Court, 8th Judicial Circuit, since January 3, 2017. He has held various significant roles, including Judge-in-Charge of the Civil Division and Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Judicial Council since 2022. Before his judicial appointment, Judge Nugent worked as Deputy Counsel for the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in the Office of Attorney General from 2009 to 2010, and in various roles within the Office of Attorney General from 2000 to 2009. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1969, Judge Nugent earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Pennsylvania State University in 1992 and his Juris Doctor from the Dickinson School of Law, Pennsylvania State University, in 1997. He has been admitted to the Maryland Bar since 1998 and has been a member of various bar associations, including the Federal Bar Association, Maryland State Bar Association, and Baltimore City Bar Association.

Judge Nugent has been actively involved in several legal and community organizations, including serving as an adjunct faculty member at the Francis King Carey School of Law, University of Maryland. His extensive legal experience and dedication to public service make him a respected and influential figure in the Maryland judiciary.
