Hon. Lynn Stewart Mays has been serving as an Associate Judge on the Baltimore City Circuit Court, 8th Judicial Circuit, since January 22, 2002. She has held various significant roles, including Designated Judge for the Advanced Science and Technology Adjudication Resource (ASTAR) Center Program since 2005. Judge Mays has been actively involved in several legal committees and organizations, such as the Public Awareness Committee, Criminal Law and Procedure Committee, Civil Law and Procedure Committee, and Problem-Solving Courts Committee of the Maryland Judicial Conference. Prior to her judicial appointment, she was an Assistant State’s Attorney in Baltimore City from 1990 to 2002, where she served in the homicide unit from 1997 to 2002.Born in Calvert County, Maryland, in 1963, Judge Mays earned her Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1985 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1988. She has been admitted to the Maryland Bar since 1989 and has been a member of various bar associations, including the Maryland State Bar Association, Baltimore City Bar Association, Monumental City Bar Association, and Women’s Bar Association of Maryland1. Throughout her career, Judge Mays has received numerous awards for her contributions to the legal field, such as the Governor’s Citation for Community Service, Certificate of Appreciation from the Training and Education Division of the Baltimore City Police Department, and Maryland’s Top 100 Women award from the Daily Record. Her dedication to justice and extensive legal experience make her a respected and influential figure in the Maryland judiciary.
