Hon. Charles H. Dorsey III

Hon. Charles H. Dorsey III has been serving as an Associate Judge on the Baltimore City Circuit Court, 8th Judicial Circuit, since December 22, 2016. Before his judicial appointment, he had a long and distinguished career in public defense, serving as Deputy Public Defender from 2009 to 2016, Assistant Public Defender from 1992 to 2003, and in various supervisory roles within the Office of the Public Defender. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1960, Judge Dorsey earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from University of Maryland Baltimore County in 1983 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1988. He has been admitted to the Maryland Bar since 1990 and has served as a law clerk to Judge David B. Mitchell from 1988 to 1990.

Judge Dorsey has been actively involved in several legal and community organizations, including the Maryland State Bar Association, the Baltimore City Bar Association, and the Baltimore Lawyers’ Assistance Program. He has received numerous awards for his service, including the Social Justice Law Advocacy Award from the Archdiocese of Baltimore in 2016. His dedication to public defense and his extensive legal experience make him a respected and influential figure in the Maryland judiciary.
