Hon. Melissa K. Copeland has been serving as an Associate Judge on the Baltimore City Circuit Court, 8th Judicial Circuit, since February 28, 2014. She has held various significant roles, including Judge-in-Charge of the Criminal Division and Presiding Judge of the Felony Reception Court1. Prior to her judicial appointment, Judge Copeland was an Assistant State’s Attorney in Baltimore City, where she served as the deputy chief of the narcotics division from 2005 to 2012. She has also been a court-appointed civil mediator and a volunteer attorney for Maryland Volunteer Attorneys.
Judge Copeland earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 1991 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1998. She has been actively involved in various legal and community organizations, including the Maryland State Bar Association and the Monumental City Bar Association. Her dedication to the legal profession and her extensive experience have made her a respected and influential figure in the Maryland judiciary.
